The Power of Incremental Progress

The Power of Incremental Progress

Big things are made of small things. Progress comes a little at a time, mostly while nothing seems to happen. The beginning is the hard part. Do a little every day.

Big things are made of small things. We forget that, because we only meet them finished.

Progress is the same. It does not arrive in one piece. It comes a little at a time, and most of it comes while nothing seems to be happening.

The work does not stack up in front of you where you can count it. It goes into you. What stops you today will not stop you in a month, and you won't notice the day it stopped.

Doing a little every day

A little, every day.

The beginning is the hard part. You do the work and nothing shows. You get nothing back you can hold, and quitting feels like the honest thing to do. Most people quit here. The ones who didn't paid the same slow price, and you weren't there to watch them pay it.

So do a little every day. Keep it small. Keep it so small that skipping it feels worse than doing it. The first weeks will feel like nothing.

Do it anyway. It isn't complicated. It's only slow.
